Mzansi Magic Drops Isibaya After 7 Years

Bomb Productions‘ longest-running show; Isibaya is being dropped by Mzansi Magic after 7 years. The rumours of the show being cancelled have been circulating since last year after 5 actors left the show.

The show was created by Bomb Production; Angus Gibson, Desiree Markgraaff, Teboho Mahlatsi & Catherine Stewart and started production in 2013.

This isn’t the first show by Bomb Production that’s being cancelled by Mzansi Magic. Mzansi Magic also cancelled Bomb’s drama series, Isithembiso after three seasons last year.

Mzansi Magic Cancels Isibaya
Word is, Mzansi Magic’s relationship with Bomb Production went south last year since Isithembiso’s cancellation and they haven’t been happy with Isibaya’s terrible ratings. Bomb is apparently shattered by this latest cancellation and has opted to leave on a good note for future projects.

The channel hasn’t provided reasons as to why Isithembiso was canned and why they’re canning Isibaya either.

Bomb Production created some of Mzansi’s hottest shows in the past like; Ayeye, Yizo-Yizo, Jacob’s Cross, The Road, Isithembiso and many more…

But this isn’t news to avid TV viewers who’ve been observing Isibaya’s continuous viewership decline: June: 1,162,093, July: 823 735, and August: 729 629. The show is even performing worse than The River which is 1Magic a premium channel.

The decline in viewership is also due to Isibaya’s terrible storyline and temporarily dropping their leading actor last season; Siyabonga Thwala who plays the role of Sengwayo ‘Mpiyakhe’ Zungu.

Isibaya fans feel that the show can still be saved if the production company brings in new writers or bring back the old ones who wrote the first season. Fans are tired of the taxi war storyline; they also want a new family and feel that characters such as Melusi Zungu brought the show to its knees.

Neither Mzansi Magic or Bomb Production has confirmed the end of their relationship yet.

Developing Story!
