LATEST On Senzo Meyiwa’s Case: Police Uncover Suspects In Murder Case And The Firearm Used To Murder Senzo (SEE NAMES)
The police team probing the murder of Senzo Meyiwa has scored a major breakthrough after finding the weapon used to kill the former Bafana Bafana legend. A recent report claims that police have identified the man who allegedly fired the shots which would result in Meyiwa’s death in October 2014. Meyiwa had died after unknown gunmen intruded on a party in the East Rand at the home of musician and girlfriend Kelly Khumalo.
Senzo Meyiwa’s case seems to be making some progress at long last. News24 reports that a senior police official involved in the case explained that the firearm and the identity of the man accused of pulling the trigger, were crucial to the investigations and signalled his hope that this would help solve the ‘complex’ case. A number of reports meant to update police on the progress of the case revealed that the investigators had found the murder weapon in a safe at the Cleveland Police Station. The man accused of the murder is currently in Johannesburg Prison serving a 30-year sentence for the 2015 murder of taxi boss Reggie Mohlala with the same firearm. The arrest of one of the suspects linked to Meyiwa’s murder in July saw investigators zoning in on the whereabouts of the firearm, finding that the firearm disposal form was signed off in 2017, set for disposal. However, unforeseen circumstances luckily saw this effort delayed and the 9mm firearm has now been seized for analysis.
A forensic report issued by the Laboratories, criminal record and Crime scene management team confirmed that the firearm ‘was 100% positive’ as the gun the authorities had been searching for. The News24 report further noted that the dossiers had revealed police had intended to ask the NPA to lay criminal charges against everyone who had been in the house on the night Meyiwa was killed. This comes after investigators slammed individuals in the house as ‘hostile’, accusing them of misleading the investigation from the onset by ‘misdirecting the facts and circumstantial evidence’.

Khumalo and her sister, Zandi, had both been in the house along with the son of Chicco Twala, Longwe Twala. Theories that Khumalo had been involved in the murder have long circulated, a plague for the musician. However, she has insisted to this day that she had played no part in the death of Meyiwa, despite immense public pressure.
