Five people have been arrested in connection with the murder of Senzo Meyiwa, 6 years after the former Bafana Bafana and Orlando Pirates goalkeeper was shot dead at the house of his then-girlfriend Kelly Khumalo.
The police have finally made a breakthrough 6 years after his death as 5 men linked to the assassination of the Pirates goalkeeper have been arrested.
Kelly Khumalo was previously accused of masterminding the death of the Senzo but she denied the accusation.
The arrest warrant of the 5 men whose names are being kept away from the media was effected on Wednesday last week.
They were signed off by Advocate Sibongile Mzinyathi, who is the director of prosecutions in Gauteng.
There is a letter that was signed by Advocate Mzinyathi that read
” A succinct summary of the facts and reasons for this decision are set out in the attached memorandum by the team that was assigned the matter. The investigating officer will be collecting the docket from this office for purposes of finalizing the outstanding investigations also facilitating the first appearance of the suspects in court.”
Some of the suspects were already in jail for crimes ranging from robbery to murder.
Independent reported that the man responsible for pulling the trigger that took Meyiwa’s life was arrested on the 16th of June. The man is reported to be a mine worker in Carletonville on the Gauteng West Rand.
The man confessed in the presence of an independent officer to having been promised R250,000 to kill Meyiwa after initially demanding R400,000 due to the profile of the former Orlando Pirates captain.
He reportedly shot Meyiwa after the goalkeeper tried to hit him with a chair. The second person was arrested in Ekurhuleni after the was followed by the police from Nongoma in KZN.
At the centre of the case is the money promised for the job which was never delivered. The police are still to name the person accused of putting a bounty on Senzo’s head as they are still investigating.
