Fatal Mob Assault in Tembisa Sparks Strong Condemnation from Police.
On 24 May 2023, the Tembisa police responded to a distress call regarding a murder in front of house 802 Hospitalview, RTJ Namane Street, Tembisa.
A 42-year-old man was brutally assaulted and killed by a group of individuals who claimed to be patrollers, accusing him of cable theft.
When the police arrived at the scene, the victim had already succumbed to his injuries, as confirmed by paramedics.
The man’s family from Moriting Section was present, adding to the distressing nature of the incident.
Acting Tembisa Station Commander, Colonel Elite Mabitsela, strongly denounced the act of mob justice, emphasizing that taking the law into one’s own hands and causing harm to others remains a criminal offense in South Africa. Mabitsela urged the community to refrain from engaging in such acts and emphasized the importance of allowing the justice system to handle criminal cases through proper legal procedures.
The police continue to encourage community members to assist in apprehending suspects and recovering stolen property, but they stress the importance of handing them over to the police for investigation and allowing the justice system to take its course.
