An Elderly Woman Defends Herself by Stabbing a Robbery Suspect to Death

GQEBERHA – An inquest has been opened by SAPS Humewood following an incident where an alleged robbery suspect was fatally stabbed during a confrontation with an elderly woman in Central this morning.

According to reports, the incident occurred around 07:30 when a 43-year-old woman was walking from Russel Road in Central. As she turned into Elliot Street, an unknown male approached her and initiated a conversation.

Suddenly, the 25-year-old suspect brandished a knife and attempted to snatch the woman’s handbag by cutting its strap.

In a courageous act of self-defense, the woman, who was also armed with a knife, fought back against the assailant.

During the struggle, she managed to stab him once in the chest.

Unfortunately, the woman sustained a stab wound to her right hand in the process. Subsequently, the suspect got up, but collapsed a few meters away and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Law enforcement authorities confiscated both knives involved in the altercation. An inquest has been launched to further investigate the incident and gather more details surrounding the circumstances.
