Rosemary Ndlovu was found in her cell with a cell phone

In a startling turn of events, Rosemary Ndlovu, a convicted serial killer and former police officer, has been charged by the Department of Correctional Services (DSC) after being found in possession of a cell phone in her prison cell.

Ndlovu is currently serving six life sentences at Johannesburg Prison (Sun City) for masterminding the murders of her partner and five relatives in order to claim insurance payouts.

The discovery of the cell phone occurred during a search of Ndlovu’s communal cell on Thursday night, prompted by a tip-off. Despite the incriminating evidence, Ndlovu refused to disclose the phone’s password to prison officials.

This incident follows Ndlovu’s recent court appearance related to a charge of conspiring to kill her former police colleague’s husband. It is alleged that Ndlovu was assisting her colleague, Nomsa Modau, in arranging for hitmen to carry out the murder.

Ndlovu’s possession of a cell phone while incarcerated raises concerns about the effectiveness of security measures within the prison system.
