Nkululeko Mkhize, a well-known figure in Richards Bay, tragically lost his life during a police confrontation.
The incident occurred at Zimbali estate, situated north of Durban, in the afternoon.
Reports indicate that he was k!lled during an exchange of gunfire with the SAPS’s National Intervention Unit, who were searching for him at the estate.
Mkhize faced allegations of links to a drug cartel.
Mkhize had gained significant public attention in 2021 when he made headlines for gifting a substantial sum of R1.5 million in cash during a traditional bridal shower, locally known as “indishi,” in Ulundi.
Insiders also hinted at Mkhize’s reputation as a “tender mafia”, particularly in dealings with Transnet.
Colonel Robert Netshiunda, a police spokesperson, reported the discovery of six firearms and over a thousand rounds of ammunition at the scene.
The Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) has taken charge of the investigation into this incident.
Additionally, a manhunt is currently underway to locate any potential additional suspects involved.
The Estate seem to have grown tired of the deceased and are happy he is no more.
