Man Allegedly Commits Su!cide In Limpopo Police Station After Being Arrested For Double Murd3r

Murder Suspect Commits Su!cide in Police Custody

Richard Azwindini Mamali, a 27-year-old murd3r suspect, allegedly took his own life while in the holding cells at Thohoyandou Police Station on September 28, 2023, sending shockwaves through the community.

Authorities made the grim discovery around 5 a.m. when they found Mamali hanging in his cell.

This tragic incident occurred shortly after Mamali had appeared in Thohoyandou Magistrate’s Court, facing two murd3r charges.

The charges stemmed from a gruesome incident on September 3, 2023, in which he allegedly fatally stabb3d his 19-year-old girlfriend, Ridodzula Mudzanani, in Ha-Magidi village.

The victim, originally from Mbaleni village, reportedly shared two children with the suspect.

Even more disturbing is the suspicion that Mamali might be connected to another brutal murd3r that occurred in the same area a week later.

Initially, his Identity Document (ID) was found at the crime scene, leading authorities to believe he had met his demise.

However, further investigation revealed that the body was not Mamali’s, and his ID had been planted, casting doubt on the case.

A manhunt ensued, resulting in Mamali’s arrest in Mahwelereng, Mokopane, on September 19, 2023.

The Provincial Commissioner of Police in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, has ordered a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding Mamali’s su!cide.

The Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) is also probing the case to unravel the unsettling events at Thohoyandou Police Station.

This tragic incident has raised concerns about the safety and supervision of detainees in police custody.

The community anxiously awaits the investigation’s results to shed light on the series of events that led to Mamali’s untimely death.
