University of Johannesburg mourns the loss of student in shooting incident
The University of Johannesburg (UJ) shared a heartfelt message on social media, expressing deep sorrow upon hearing about the passing of one of its students in a shooting incident on the afternoon of 29 February in Braamfontein.
The victim, an 18-year-old second-year male student, was tragically caught in the crossfire while commuting on a bus from the university to Johannesburg City Centre, where he lived.
Fortunately, another student is currently receiving medical care in the hospital for injuries sustained during the ordeal.
In response to this devastating event, UJ authorities are actively working alongside law enforcement agencies to investigate the incident. Additionally, the university has launched counseling services for students who were present on the bus at the time of the shooting.

Colonel Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi, spokesperson for the South African Police Service (SAPS) in Gauteng, informed The South African that unknown assailants fired shots at two men inside a parked vehicle, inadvertently involving a university bus in the crossfire and injuring two students.
The entire University of Johannesburg community is in mourning following this tragic loss. An outpouring of condolences and support has flooded in for the families and friends of the affected students, uniting the community in grief.
