NSFAS Highlights Monthly Allowance Dates For TVETs And Universities

NSFAS Disburses Funds for 2024 Academic Year: Students Receive Much-Needed Support

The National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) has stepped up its efforts to bolster tertiary education by successfully distributing funds to both University and TVET college students for the 2024 academic cycle.

This achievement comes as a beacon of hope for students navigating the financial challenges of pursuing higher education.

NSFAS Highlights Importance of Monthly Allowance Payment Dates

NSFAS emphasizes the critical nature of adhering to monthly payment dates, with TVET college allowances scheduled for disbursement on the 25th of each month and university allowances on the 30th.

Timely submission of registration data by institutions is pivotal to ensuring students receive their much-needed financial support on schedule.

Allocation of Funds and Registration Data Submission

In the current payment cycle, NSFAS has allocated a substantial amount of R2,306,583,222.00 for university allowances, covering various categories such as tuition and direct payments to students.

The loading of registration data for the 2024 academic year has commenced, with institutions urged to promptly submit data upon confirmation of funding and student registration.

This ensures accurate processing of payments for tuition and allowances.

Challenges Faced by NSFAS

Despite its efforts, NSFAS encountered hurdles in receiving registration data from key institutions, including the University of Fort Hare and the University of Stellenbosch, at the time of generating the payment file.

Consequently, registration data received after this stage did not form part of the April payment file, impacting several institutions.

Affected Institutions include:

  • University of Venda
  • University of Mpumalanga
  • University of Limpopo
  • University of the Witwatersrand
  • Sol Plaatje University
  • Durban University of Technology
  • North-West University
  • Vaal University of Technology
  • University of Stellenbosch
  • Mangosuthu University of Technology
  • University of the Western Cape
  • Tshwane University of Technology

In light of these challenges, NSFAS continues to work diligently to ensure that all eligible students receive the financial assistance they need to pursue their academic aspirations.
