Today we woke up to the shocking news that Kwaito hotshot and entertainer Nomasonto Maswanganyi, affectionately known as Mshoza had died at the tender age of 37.
Mshoza touched many with her Kwaito music and stage performances in a career spanning across two decades.
IHarare presents you with 5 things you need to about the Kwaito Legend:
Apart from her good music, most people know Mshoza for her controversial body adjustment surgeries, however, the Kwaito legend came from humble beginnings.
Mshoza grew up in Protea North in Soweto where she was raised in squalid condition by her hard-working grandmother.
No doubt she followed in her granny’s footsteps and began working toward a career in music and entertainment. As a teen Mashoza entered a few modelling competitions, before settling for a music career.
At the age of 14 years old she launched her first album. Her music career received a major boost when she won the Jam Alley freestyling competition.
although she was a talented and a hard worker she also received mentorship from the late Kwaito pioneer and legend Mandoza during her early stages in the music industry.
Did you know? Her hit song Kortes is regarded as one of the most popular songs of all time in South Africa.
She was also an entrepreneur and during her life, she managed to start her own recording label known as Fresh Money Family.
Kind At Heart.
According to former 3Sum member and friend, Amstel Maboa Mshoza had the heart of an angel and cared about people.
What people don’t know is she was sensitive and caring, she would cry physical tears when she saw people around her suffering and in pain. She always did what she could to help. Mshoza had the heart of an angel. said Amstel.
Mshoza Was A Brave Woman
The Kortes hitmaker lived through a hell of a marriage at the hands of former hubby Thuthukani Mvula, Mshoza was indeed a brave woman who endured the worse.
In an incident that happened in 2018, Mashoza claimed that Mvula threatened to kill her and bury her in their marital home.
He has told me that he will kill me and bury me in the house and no one will find out. He actually showed me the tiles he’d remove to dig. He has often told me that he will kill me.
Mshoza finally averted danger and divorced the abusive Mvula.

During her lifetime Mshoza went under the knife countless times that very few people know the exact number of surgeries she got. From surgical skin lightening procedures to bottom implants, to lip and cheek surgery Mashoza had them all.
Mshoza went through all this trouble in the quest to become as she was quoted saying: ‘i want to be perfect’.
Mshoza also reportedly paid well over half a million in one of the procedures as reported by IOL.com.
Mshoza was diagnosed with diabetes in 2014 and it was discovered after she got very ill.
Her manager of 11 years Thanduxolo Jindela confirmed that Mshoza had been living with the terminal illness for quite some time.
She had been living with diabetes for a long time and she was treating it, Jindela said.
Jindela also revealed that Mshoza did not want prying eyes in her private life
We were obviously keeping it out of the media that she was hospitalised yesterday [Wednesday]. Remember, there is Mshoza that everyone loves and knows. Then there is Nomasonto and she didn’t like such things to be known.
