5 Times Minnie Dlamini Was Fat Shamed

Minnie Dlamini has been enjoying her life as a married woman over the past two years, but her new status a Mrs Jones has come with extra scrutiny from the public.

The Homeground presenter has gained a few kilos since marrying cameraman and producer, Quinton Jones, in September 2017.

The extra weight has not gone unnoticed by her fans who question her non-stop about it.

Many have even gone as far as to speculate that she has a bun in the oven.

While Minnie had admitted to getting “broody sometimes” in the past, she has made it clear she is in no rush to have children.

Despite her putting babies on the backburner for now, Minnie constantly deals with questions about her pregnancy status every time she gains weights.

Here’s a look at five times the 29-year-old was body-shamed over the past two years.

Your husband will cheat

Minnie Dlamini was one of several stars who attended the opening of the Durban International Film Festival last week. She wore a figure-hugging dress from designer dress store, Cinnel, that showed off her hour-glass figure. While many of her followers thought she looked “gorgeous”, one man caused an uproar on Twitter by suggesting the TV presenter was letting herself go.

“Why do woman stop taking care of themselves after being married one she is getting fat every day. Look at her face and chin. Mr Jones will start searching!!” he wrote.

Some of Minnie’s fans clapped back.

“Wena why are you worried if she’s getting fat or not. You are not Mr Jones. Shut up, drink water and mind It,” one woman wrote.

Amen to that!

“I hope you are pregnant, otherwise…”

Minnie Dlamini made a dramatic entrance at the 2019 Sun Met in a “liquid gold” gown created by local designer, Gert-Johan Coetzee. Some of her Instagram followers were not feeling the look, saying it made her look fat. Some went as far as to suggest she was with child.

“What’s in the oven?” one social media user asked. “I hope you’re pregnant otherwise this is a total fail,” a hater added.

Minnie was unbothered by the mean comments. “We did something different and I loved it,” she responded to one user.

Minnie claps back

Minnie used a photoshoot in Namibia to hit back at internet trolls who kept assuming she was pregnant because of her weight in August last year. “No matter your size, shape (or pregnancy rumors) love your body, celebrate it!” she wrote on Instagram.

“I’m just fat”

It was not the first time Minnie had to defend herself against false pregnancy claims. In November 2017, a Twitter user shared a picture of Minnie in a tight dress and proceeded to congratulate her on her pregnancy. “#MrsJones cute baby bump, she looks amazing. @MinnieDlamini yeeeeeees!” the woman wrote. Minnie laughed off the comment. “Nah I’m just fat,” she replied.

Is it a boy or girl?

Minnie was hit with more pregnancy rumours in February this year after she shared a cryptic tweet. “OMG I’m soooooo happy and excited right now. Jumping around like a little kid,” she tweeted. Twitter users immediately started asking if she was pregnant. “Is it a boy or girl?” “Congrats Mrs Jones on the little one… we can’t wait to meet him/ her.”

Minnie clarified that her tweet was about business. She added that it was “insensitive” for people to speculate about whether she was pregnant or not.

“Let’s trust in God’s timing for the arrival of my offspring. We also need to be cognizant of how insensitive it is to speculate about pregnancy. You don’t know my journey or what I’ve been through or go through. Let’s just think before we tweet please.”
