Authorities and the government are doing everything to try and convince people in South Africa to be vaccinated. Now things seem to have moved from convincing to forcing after Discovery Life Insurance warned its clients that those who do not vaccinate may be subject to higher risk on rating premiums due to increased risk.
“Discovery SA Life that it will give higher PayBack rewards to clients who are vaccinated. Also have warned that those who do not vaccinate may be subject to higher risk rating on premiums due to increased risk. This is going to cause a rumpus with anti-vaxxers.”
“Refusal to be vaccinated is treated similarly to smoking or lifestyle diseases such as diabetes, which receive a higher premium. This premium may be adjusted should an unvaccinated client later decide to get vaccinated,” the message reads.
Discovery clients are not on the same page when it comes to this. Some believe it is a good strategy looking at how Covid-19 is killing people all over the world. They go on to encourage other policies and Insurance companies to do the same. However, some think it is not fair and they are taking away people’s rights.
The confusion cloud over many South Africans is if the vaccine will really protect or weaken them. This comes after people who had received both jabs contracted the virus and still succumbed to it. To make matters worse scientists are also divided when it comes to the vaccine. The big question on everyone’s mind is if the vaccine will stop the spread of the virus and end this horror we are in.
Here are some of the thought of fellow South Africans concerning the move by Discovery:
“Lol! Does that mean that this will fall under chronic illness benefit and should the client get adverse side effects or subsequently die they’ll be covered and get their payout?”
“Like I told my production manager, if you want me to get vaccinated you must bring you firearm point it to my head and pull the trigger. I will not go for the vaccine.”
“Bribery and bullying that is not nice.”
“This is absolutely not fair – why is there discrimination against those who wish to exercise their right about how to take care of themselves. It is a patient right to refuse treatment and they should not be penalized in this manner!”
