Fuel price increase, Toll tariffs on the hike

The South African National Roads Agency (Sanral) has increased payments at tolls by 5% from 1 March.

“The tariffs are adjusted annually in line with the Consumer Price Index as obtained from Statistics South Africa,” the road agency said.

Motorists passing through the Mariannhill Toll Plaza will now have to fork out an additional 50 cents in fees.

Tariffs have gone up to R13.50 for cars.

Drivers of Class 4 heavy-duty vehicles will be paying R47.00.

Sanral says the price increases will go towards improving road infrastructure and operational costs.

“We are counting on the public to support us in this endeavour, because without this key alternative source of funding, we would not be able to carry out some of our major works,” says Vusi Mona, Sanral General Manager of Communications.

Meanwhile, both grades of petrol will increase by a whopping R1,46 cents per litre at midnight.

Diesel users will be paying between R1.44 and R1.48 more per litre.
