Not so long ago, Uzalo firebrand Baby Cele who played the might Gabisile, bowed out of Uzalo. However, she made a shocking return in August.
She is currently making all sorts of headlines with her storyline, which sees her in a relationship with Nkunzi. A few months ago, she made all sorts of headlines when she was axed from Uzalo alongside her on-screen husband Siyabonga Shibe, who played Qhabanga.
However, rumour had it that the on-screen power couple called it quits after a fallout with the showrunners. Other sources claimed that several actors called it quits after Uzalo was marred with salary woes. Her exit saw marked the mass exodus of seasoned actors, the likes of Dawn Thandeka King.
Upon her exit, the star actress did hint that she was returning but will all thought it was a lie. How come did she survive the strangling to make matters worse? How did she survive in the river where his estranged husband tossed to her.
When we last saw her, she confessed her evil sins to her husband Qhabanga, who strangled her in rage and despair and tossed her in the river, leaving her for dead. But things happened between then and now. Gabisile’s been lost and found in her version of Amazing Grace while Baby filmed a series on e.tv.
We can all agree that Uzalo played us. With her return on Uzalo, she joins a host of star actors who made a craze comeback this year. The come back craze includes Vuyo Dabula, Zandile Msutwana, and Bongani Masondo.
The 48-year-old was born on 22 March 1972, Durban, South Africa. Apart from acting, she also doubles as a film director. Although she loved singing, the acting bug stings her when she cast the musical Sarafina. Mbongeni Ngema gave Baby Cele a shot when she was only 16, and she made the most out of it.
“I met Mbongeni Ngema while he is driving down the road, next to my house. I didn’t even have to audition for the part in Sarafina, the musical.”
From there that was her thrust into the limelight. Since then she has featured in more than 20 drama series. With her illustrious career spanning for decades, she has managed to cap it with accolades.
However, her shocking return has got Mzansi asking how much dies the star actress earn. The seasoned actress is paid between R45 000 to R55 000 per month. We can all agree that actors salaries vary with time on scenes, experience and role prominence.
