Gardee boyfriend was ‘TORTURED’

THREE MEN have been arrested in connection with Hillary Gardee’s murder.

The 28-year-old’s body was found on Tuesday, 3 May with a gunshot wound to the head.

Now, in a turn of events, her lover Muxe Zitha is suing the police for wrongful arrest and torture.

Muxa from Thulamahashe, Mpumalanga, said: “We searched for her together. I was shocked when the same cops assaulted and tortured me a few days later and wrongfully accused me of killing her.”

The 28-year-old, who runs a graphic design, printing and accounting services business, said he received a call on Wednesday, 4 May from a cop who identified himself as the investigating officer in the case.

He said the cops asked to meet him at the Nelspruit cop shop. On his way there, the officer called again to say he’d arranged that they meet at Hazyview Police Station.

He said upon arrival, the cop and two others cuffed him and took his cellphone and business laptop before throwing him into a VW Polo. Muxe said they drove to the police provincial office and later dropped him off at the Nelspruit cop shop. There, he met a team of cops and one of them allegedly bashed and klapped him, forcing him to tell them the truth about Hillary’s whereabouts. “I told them I last saw her at Truworths on Friday in Brown Street in the Nelspruit CBD.

“I last communicated with her at about 5pm, and she told me she was at Nelspruit Plaza Spar supermarket.”

He said the cops got a statement from him before dropping him off at his rented room in Kamagugu. On Thursday, he returned to the cop shop to collect his phone and laptop.

Two cops allegedly bust him, accusing him of being responsible for Hillary’s death before throwing him into a police van. He said they drove off with him and stopped between Carolina and Barberton.

“They dragged me out of the car and interrogated me about Hillary’s disappearance and the R1 000 transaction from her bank account. I replied that I knew nothing. They electrocuted me and I woke up in my rented room. Doctors confirmed I had internal injuries and put me on a drip and medication. I no longer trust police and no longer feel safe. How can I kill her when I loved her so much?” he said.

Muxe said he was consulting with legal advisers to file a lawsuit against the police for wrongful arrest and torture. His mum Florence (63) said: “I am thankful his mastand alerted us to the situation. My son could have died.”

Independent Police Investigative Directorate (Ipid) spokeswoman Lizzy Suping encouraged the complainant to open a case either with the police or the directorate, using their toll free number 0800 111969.

“Ipid will then investigate the case,” she said. – Daily Sun
