“Cast members were shocked to find out that those two wouldn’t be returning to the show. This is because even though we don’t know what happened, some actors like Mukondeleli (Elsie Rasalanavho) were given contracts that would last half the new season. But clearly, their issue was big because they didn’t even get that chance,” said a source.
McDonald and Sydney have been with the show for more than a decade, but recently they haven’t been making appearances leaving viewers worried about their future on the show.
Another source said the two found out about their firing from fellow actors. McDonald was angry when he was moved from a global contract to a contract, and he didn’t sign the contract because it was clear they no longer wanted him.
“The day contracts were renewed, he received an email saying he was being moved from a global contract to a call contract. He didn’t sign it because he knew that meant they didn’t want him anymore. He was angry because he left home in Limpopo and moved to Gauteng for the show. He felt it was unfair that he was given a warning.”
He said he was told that the storyline would be taking a different direction. “There was nothing out of the ordinary for me. The opportunity was good and I gave it my best. I had fun with the character that I played for many years.”
According to Caroline Phakatshela, a publicist for video entertainment, the production informed Ndou and Ramakuwela that they would be placed as call basis.
“The production house informed us that it communicated with MacDonald and Sydney, informing them that with the new contract, they would be placed on as call basis.”
Another actor who recently left the show is Elsie Rasalanavho. The actress who played the fan-favourite Vho-Mukondeleli had been with the show for more two decades.
Muvhango recently its 25th anniversary and according to Daily Sun, Elsie revealed that she was leaving the show. “My journey wasn’t easy because I was a teacher, I had to teach children and on the weekend’s action. On Friday afternoons I would take a bus to Joburg, it was hectic because when I went back on Sunday, I had to go to school on Monday, but somehow I managed,” she said. – ZAlebs
