Matamela Cyril Ramaphosa was born on the 17th of November 1952. Ramaphosa is a South African born politician currently serving as the president of the country since the year 2017. Previously, he served as the anti-apartheid activist, trade union leader and a businessman. He served as the secretary-general to president Nelson Mandela, deputy president to former president Jacob Zuma and the chairman of the National Planning Commission, from 2014 to 2018.
He is the second born child of the three children of Erdmuth Ramaphosa and Samuel Ramaphosa who is a retired policeman.
Ramaphosa served as the deputy president of South Africa from 2014 to 2018. He was later elected as the president of the ANC, at the ANC National Congress in December 2017. He became president of South Africa around a common set of objectives and priorities to drive development over the longer term. Ramaphosa became president without a general election, after Jacob Zuma resigned.
Ramaphosa was elected president by the National Assembly to his first full term on May 22, following the ANC’s victory in the 2019, South African general elections.
