The passing of Mzansi’s veteran actor Menzi Ngubane, has sent shockwaves across the country. The actor rose to superstardom when he assumed the role of Cijimpi in Kwakhala Nyonini, which turned him into a household name with a legion of fans.
He then went to portray numerous characters on our small screens, leaving millions of viewers mesmerized by his amazing acting skills. Some of his iconic roles include Sibusiso Dlomo in Generations and Judas in Isibaya. Media mogul Connie Ferguson has also taken to social media to join a number of South Africans, who have been expressed their shock following his passing and paid tribute to the fallen giants. Connie opened up about the heartache of losing the actor who had bagged a role in one of their productions The Queen and said she is seriously at loss.
In a post on Instagram, she wrote, “Ngubs!!!😭😭😭 This is too much!💔 May God give Sike and the Ngubane family strength and courage to deal with this loss!🙏🏾 You are in our prayers!🙏🏾 I am seriously at a loss!🥲 #ripngubs 🕊🕊🕊 As legends never die, you live on in our hearts and your amazing library of work!🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾❤️.”
Shona was also devastated to hear of his passing. “#RIP NGUBS. You will never be forgotten 🙏🏽 Our deepest condolences to the Ngubane family. Know that GOD is with you always. “The LORD is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.” Psalm 34:18,” he wrote.
Sonia Mbele, who used to play Menzi’s onscreen wife Ntombi in Generations took to Twitter to pay tribute to the legend. In a tweet, she wrote “I’ve been quite because I’ve been processing, I’m still battling! Ours was a love story crafted in television land, and you’ll forever remain Ntombi’s soulmate. #somahashi #ngubane.”
Ngubane had been battling diabetes and kidney disease for several years ad his family confirmed that he succumbed to a stroke. In a statement shared with Channel24, the family thanked everyone for their prayers
“As a family, we wish to thank everyone for their continued and sustained support and the prayers for our beloved son whose battle with kidney failure & sugar diabetes had become an open secret over the years. We wish to mourn the passing of our beloved son in private and will communicate the funeral and other arrangements in due course,” said a family spokesperson in a statement.
