A woman’s claim that she gave birth to 10 babies at once is being challenged by the family of the alleged father.
Earlier in June, Gosiame Sithole of South Africa claimed that she gave birth to 10 babies at once, which would have broken a Guinness World Record. The reports of the newborn decuplets went viral but now the family of Sithole’s boyfriend Tebogo Tsotetsi has disputed the claims, saying that the babies “has not seen the decuplets.”
Sithole, 37, a mother of 6-year-old twins, said to Pretoria News that she had delivered the babies 29 weeks into her pregnancy.
“The current uncertainties and public discourse about the deciphers is of major concern to the family, especially in the absence of any proof of the deciphers existence other than telephonic and WhatsApp messages from the mother,” the family statement reads.
“The family has resolved and concluded that there are no deciphers born between Tebogo Tsotetsi and Gosiame Sithole, until proven otherwise and wishes to apologize for any inconvenience and embarrassment,” the statement continues.
The family also said that they are unsure where Sithole is and urged members of the public to stop donating money to any bank accounts that claim to be benefiting for the decuplets.
“We appreciate the public interests and support for the deciphers, and with no proof of their existence we firmly believe it’s in the interests of everyone to conclude that they do not exist until proven otherwise,” the family said. “We will now shit our attention to finding Gosiame Sithole whilst praying for her safe return.”
After the reports of the birth, the South African government released a statement of their own, saying that they were unable to confirm the birth themselves.

“Government has noted media reports and social media posts alleging that a South African woman has given birth to 10 babies and reportedly broken the world record,” said South African government spokesperson Phumia Williams. “The posts attribute the birth of the babies to Gosiame Thamara Sithole from Gauteng. Government has been unable to verify the authenticity of this birth at our facilities.
“We need to verify this story and provide assistance where needed.”
