Nyaope, also known as Whoonga in South Africa, is a dangerously addictive stimulant that also happens to be one of the cheapest and most common drugs. Between the years 2000 and 2006, the substance was discovered in the Tshwane townships of Mamelodi, Attridgeville, and Soshanguve. Later, in 2010, it was discovered that it was being used and produced in Durban; following that, nyaope spread rapidly throughout South Africa’s provinces, with one hit paying as little as R20.
So many people’s lives have been ruined by this drug. Many users have been arrested because when they don’t have it, they will do anything to get money to buy it.
The majority of them even turn to crime. Not long ago, there was a viral story about a young man who sold a plasma TV for R20 in order to purchase Nyaope. This story demonstrates how this drug is affecting the minds of young people.
Another video surfaced recently of a boy doing the unfathomable after allegedly smoking Nyaope. This lad was standing in the middle of the road, obstructing traffic. He pretended to pray, then became very animated and jumped on top of a passing car, breaking the window screen. The driver of the car did not bother to come out; he simply watched from the car as people were stunned.
Many people condemned this behavior after this video was shared on social media. They are criticizing Nyaope for interfering with the minds of young people. Some argue that the driver should have gotten out of the car and confronted Aden physically. Many people were enraged by this video. What would you do if you were a driver and someone did the same thing in your car? Please leave your comments below.
