Percy Muzi Tau “The lion of Judah” is a South African professional footballer who plays for Premier League club Brighton & Hove Albion and the South African national team.
Percy was born on May 13, 1994 in eMalahleni Mpumalanga.
Tau began his Premier Soccer League career with Mamelodi Sundowns. He made his professional debut for the club on 25 February 2014 in the league match against Orlando Pirates.
On 20 July 2018, Tau signed a four-year contract with English Premier League club Brighton & Hove Albion.
Tau’s R50 million transfer fee broke the South African record for sale of a domestic player. Prior to his departure, Tau was also the 2017-18 season Players’ Player and Player of the Season award winner.
In a UK report in 2018, Brighton’s weekly wages were revealed and Tau was set to earn £30000 (R530000) a week before tax. This translates to R25.4-milllon a year.
Annual: R26 940 000
Monthly: R2 245 000
Weekly: R 561 253
Daily: R80 179.00
Unfortunately Tau has to pay exorbitant UK taxes which can be as high as 45%. Even so, this he still makes over R40 000 a day after tax, that’s a lot of money.
Tau is set to join Briton after failing the UK work permit and being on loan in Belgium with Union SG and Club Brugge and another loan at Anderlecht at the start of the 2020/21 season where he scored four goals in 15 starts for the club.
Congratulations to “the lion of Judah”, we wish him luck on his return to the premier league and may he continue to lift our flag high.
