ORLANDO Pirates winger Thembinkosi Lorch will spend the rest of the year in the casualty room nursing an injury.
Pirates’ interim coach Fadlu Davids broke the sad news on Saturday following their 1-0 win over Swallows FC in a DStv Premiership match played at Orlando Stadium. Lorch has been injury prone as he also missed over 15 matches last season.
Ironically, Lorch also missed Pirates 2-1 defeat to Swallows FC in the MTN8 quarterfinal at the same venue in August due to a shoulder injury.
Said Davids: “Lorch, we won’t see him for the rest of the year, he has a long-term injury.”
Meanwhile, Davids hailed captain Happy Jele who made history on Saturday by becoming the first player in the PSL era to play his 400th match since making his debut for Bucs in 2006. He says Jele has the ability to become a great coach in future.
Added Davids: “Jele is consistence whenever he performs. One of his qualities is managing new players and keeping players together in the change room. He is a great leader and I believe he will be a top coach one day because when we change structure on how we do our pressing our voice on the pitch is Happy. I had a chart with him that next season he could easily reach 500 matches. He is a huge asset for the club on and off the pitch.”
