Zozibini Tunzi’s family worried after She didn’t sleep over at Home – We slaughtered a sheep & cow but she didn’t stay

Zozibini Tunzi’s family hopes their daughter will come home after finishing her reign as 2019 Miss Universe.

They want her to speak to her ancestors and do more traditional rituals. Zozi landed in Mthatha, Eastern Cape on Saturday afternoon after meeting fans at OR Tambo International Airport in the morning.

She received a warm welcome at both airports.

She was escorted to her home in Sidwadweni Village in Tsolo. But Zozi’s family raised concerns after she didn’t sleep over at home.

“We had a long discussion about that with the office of Miss Universe explaining the importance of sleeping at home. They agreed but later raised the issue of security,” said Zozi’s dad Lungisa.

“On Saturday we slaughtered a sheep and a cow and the elders spoke to her, but she didn’t stay. We had to speak to the ancestors telling them that the situation was different.”

Zozi was delighted to see her dad, mum Philiswa and sisters Yanga, Sibabalwe, and Ayakha.

“The support of my family has been crucial to my success,” she said.

Zozi said she couldn’t wait to eat her mum’s mngqusho. Yesterday morning, the Zozibini Tunzi mural was unveiled at the Nkosi Mtshazi Public Library in Tsolo. It was designed by Eastern Cape designers Lwando Hlazo, Aphethuxolo Sibariboyi, and Azola Ntlantsana.

Arts and Culture MEC Fezeka Bayeni said: “We’re sure kids will be inspired to see her every day.”

The home welcoming ended yesterday at Mthatha Stadium. Since being crowned Miss Universe in December last year, Zozi became a role model to many young girls. She said she was overwhelmed by the support she received at home.

She said she looked forward to working with the youth of South Africa doing projects that could improve communities. Her homecoming was described as something that would allow young black people to reach their dreams.

Capetonians will have a chance to see Zozi on Friday morning.
