Trouble at new TV series, Family Secrets – Actors Sonia Mbele, Menzi Ngubane & others go unpaid
There wasn’t much excitement when former colleagues reunited on a TV show.
Former Generations actors Sophie Ndaba, Katlego Danke, Menzi Ngubane, and Sonia Mbele star in a new drama series Family Secrets, which aired on SABC1 on Sunday night. But they apparently didn’t know when the show would air as it was shot a long time ago.
According to sources, the stars were not paid and that’s why they didn’t promote the show on their social media platforms. Menzi Ngubane said he wasn’t aware the series was scheduled to air on Sunday.
“As far as I know, the production was paused due to unforeseen circumstances.”
Katlego, who stars on Mzansi Magic’s Gomora, said she received a message from the show’s executive producer about a week ago informing her that the series would air shortly.
But Sonia said she couldn’t comment as there was a legal matter going on.
SABC spokeswoman Mmoni Seapolelo said: “The SABC is not responsible for paying the crew and cast members of Family Secrets. This programme is a licensed property and all enquiries relating to matters relating to payment of its crew and cast members should be directed to the production house responsible.”
