Hawks turn down Norma’s claims, nothing unlawful was done during her arrest

During Norma Mngoma (formally Gigaba) court case in the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court on Monday, the estranged wife of the former finance minister accused Hawks for unlawful arrest. However, Hawks slammed her claims and said there was nothing illegal about her arrest. Norma Mngoma appeared briefly at the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court on charges of crimen injuria and malicious damage to property after she allegedly damaged a luxury car which her husband borrowed.

Her case was postponed till October 1. After her arrest, Hawks raided her home and seized her gadgets. In court, Norma claimed the actions of the Hawks were unlawful. She also argued that her arrest was a planned conspiracy to bully and intimidate her in order to gain access to her gadgets to delete certain information. She claimed that when she got her devices back, some messages and images were truly deleted. On this matter, Hawks insisted there was nothing illegal about their raid.

Mulaudzi said what she is claiming does not make sense. “That is her own assertion and when it comes to seizure of devices we wouldn’t even go that far, what would be the point? What purpose would it serve? But like I say, let’s leave it for the courts to decide. “From our side, we are clear from the beginning to say, if she has a problem she should approach the courts, for relief.” “As far as we are concerned, everything was done legally and as such we still maintain that it was done within the confines of the law,” said Mulaudzi.

The court postponed the case to October 1.
