Two Teachers Were Brutally Sh0t And K!lled In Gauteng

In a tragic turn of events, Gauteng was rocked by the fatal shootings of two teachers from different schools, marking a harrowing Friday for the education community.

According to Steve Mabona, spokesperson for the Gauteng Department of Education, the victims were a Life Orientation educator from Riverside High School in Vanderbijlpark and the Departmental Head of Commerce from Unity Secondary School in Daveyton.

Palesa Mofokeng, the 33-year-old teacher from Riverside High School, met a tragic end as she was driving to work, ambushed by an assailant who fatally shot her at a traffic light near North West University’s Vaal Campus.

Confirming the arrest of four individuals, including Mofokeng’s ex-husband, Lieutenant Colonel Mavela Masondo detailed the incident, revealing that suspects in a Honda FRV motor vehicle opened fire on Mofokeng’s vehicle at the robots, resulting in her untimely death.

In a separate incident later that evening in Daveyton, the Departmental Head of Commerce from Unity Secondary School was also fatally shot inside his car, with authorities yet to identify him.

Expressing deep concern over these tragic events, Gauteng Education MEC Matome Chiloane called for swift justice, urging law enforcement agencies to apprehend the perpetrators responsible for these senseless killings.

As investigations continue, the Gauteng Department of Education is set to deploy its Psycho-Social Support Unit to provide much-needed counseling and trauma support to the affected school communities, aiming to navigate through this challenging time together.
