Bishop Maponga “A white Jesus did not die for the blacks” – what we learnt

Zimbabwean born Bishop Joshua Maponga preached a series of sermons which are available on YouTube.

After I attentively watched and listened to Maponga deciphering the decolonization and deconstruction of the anthropological theology of christology within the framework of soteriology and eschatology in a contemporary captured ecclesiastical ambiance .

He made it crystal clear that a white Jesus did not die for Africans.

I should admit , he executed his decolonization and deconstruction in a very unorthodox manner . Consequently, he ruffled a lot of feathers.

To paraphrase Maponga’s message , he said :

i) Christianity was / is being used as a conduit pipe to politically and mentally colonize Africa

ii) In contemporary churches , including SDA racism is systematically used to downtrodden Africans

iii) Jesus was black. Africans must not believe that “ the blue eyed blonde boy” died for them .

iv) Africans are recovering abused children from Christianity

v) why do the whites give us religion and take our land. I want both land and religion

vii) Christianity is a systematic concept to detox Africans from their identity and become Europeans. They spread the message that God will not accept Africans unless they become eurocentric .

v) It is written : thou shalt labour for six days and rest in the seventh day . Consequently, it is illegal to rest on the 7th day when you have not worked for 6 days . How can you rest when you have not labored ?

vii) it’s time to unmask the eurocentric ideas from Africans .

Objectively, let’s not exercise austerity thinking but ponder on Maponga’s message . Let’s historicize and contextualize his message and see if it passes the litmus test .

The test of critical thinking arises after listening to the sermon as we begin to have lots of questions. Is he still a member of the Seventh Day Adventist church or he has been excommunicated accordingly ? Can someone harbor all the aforesaid beliefs and still be an Adventist ?

I am very interested in learning from the Seventh Day Adventist folks and the generality of South Africans on this crucial topic .

What’s your take …..
