Tragic Collision Between Taxi and Truck Claims Multiple Lives on N10/N9

The accident occurred in the early hours of the morning when the taxi and truck collided head-on at the N10/N9 crossing.

Reports say the force of the collision was so powerful that everyone inside the taxi was instantly killed.

Fifteen people, including a baby and toddler, died in a “freak accident” involving a minibus taxi and a truck on the N9 in Middelburg, in the Eastern Cape, on Sunday evening.

According to provincial Department of Transport spokesperson Unathi Binqose, the heavy-duty truck hit a stray animal and lost control.

In the process, its trailer overturned and landed on top of the passing taxi, which was headed in the opposite direction toward the Western Cape.

The 15 deceased were all passengers of the taxi. The driver of the truck escaped with minor injuries. – NEWS24
